Port Adelaide is one of the last ports in Australia to be redeveloped. Transformation began in November 2005 and will cost an estimated $1.5 billion. By then, 51ha of vacant waterfront land located 12km Northwest of the Adelaide CBD will have been put to residential, commercial, recreational and tourism usages.

Site owner, Land Management Corporation (LMC) sees Port Adelaide becoming once again a regional centre, with a population increase of around 10,000 people. LMC is a public enterprise with a focus on creating sustainable urban environments.

Under its management, MYCON undertook preparation of Precinct One located immediately south of the Jervois Bridge. The site was occupied at the start of works by 16 plant operators equipped with three 22t excavators, 40t dump truck, two 20t loaders, 12t roller, two tandem tippers, 3t excavator, bobcat and forklift.

Environmental auditor Golder Associates ensured that preparation work was carried out under strict guidelines for odor emission, dust, noise generation, waste and stormwater management. A weather station provided full telemetry on wind speed and direction, crucial in monitoring dust generation and potential impacts on neighbors.

The level of environmental control required by the EPA and the environmental auditor for this project included a zero dust policy and an environmental management plan in the order of 1,000 pages of documentation. The Newport Quays Waterfront Redevelopment won a Case Earth Award for environmental excellence in category 1 (projects up to $5 million) at the SA presentation and then went on to win the national award.
